Discovery of depressions in the X-ray emission of the distant galaxy cluster RBS797 in a CHANDRA observation

چکیده
We present CHANDRA observations of the X-ray luminous, distant galaxy cluster RBS797 at z = 0.35. In the central region the X-ray emission shows two pronounced X-ray minima, which are located opposite to each other with respect to the cluster centre. These depressions suggest an interaction between the central radio galaxy and the intra-cluster medium, which would be the first detection in such a distant cluster. The minima are symmetric relative to the cluster centre and very deep compared to similar features found in a few other nearby clusters. A spectral and morphological analysis of the overall cluster emission shows that RBS797 is a hot cluster (T = 7.7 −1.0keV) with a total mass of Mtot(r500) = 6.5 +1.6 −1.2 × 10 M⊙.

Recent Chandra and Xmm Observations of Two Very Different Galaxy Clusters: Rbs797 and Cl 0939+4713
RBS797 and CL 0939+4713 are two intermediate red-shift clusters (z = 0.35 − 0.41). They have very different morphologies but both show surprisingly interesting structures. RBS797 looks relaxed, with an almost circular morphology; a CHANDRA observation of this cluster has revealed two deep depressions in the X-ray emission near the core. CL 0939+4713 has instead an irregular morphology with evid...
متن کاملGalaxy and hot gas distributions in the z = 0 . 52 galaxy cluster RBS 380 from CHANDRA and NTT observations .
We present CHANDRA X-ray and NTT optical observations of the distant z = 0.52 galaxy cluster RBS380 – the most distant cluster of the ROSAT Bright Source (RBS) catalogue. We find diffuse, non-spherically symmetric X-ray emission with a X-ray luminosity of LX (0.3 − 10 keV) = 1.6 10 erg/s, which is lower than expected from the RBS. The reason is a bright AGN in the centre of the cluster contribu...
متن کاملChandra X-Ray Observations of the Hydra A Cluster: An Interaction between the Radio Source and the X-Ray-emitting Gas.
We present Chandra X-ray observations of the Hydra A cluster of galaxies, and we report the discovery of structure in the central 80 kpc of the cluster's X-ray-emitting gas. The most remarkable structures are depressions in the X-ray surface brightness, approximately 25-35 kpc in diameter, that are coincident with Hydra A's radio lobes. The depressions are nearly devoid of X-ray-emitting gas, a...

We present X-ray imaging spectroscopy of the extremely luminous infrared galaxy IRAS 09104+4109 (z = 0.442) obtained with the Chandra X-ray Observatory. With the arcsec resolution of Chandra, an unresolved source at the nucleus is separated from the surrounding cluster emission. A strong iron K line at 6.4 keV on a very hard continuum is detected from the nuclear source, rendering IRAS 09104+41...
متن کاملClusters of Galaxies: a Fundamental Pillar of Cosmology
Clusters of galaxies are used in a variety of ways to do cosmology. Some of them are presented here. Their X-ray emitting gas allows us to determine the baryon fraction, dark matter distribution and the matter density Ωm of the universe. Another interesting component is relativistic particles whose radio emission provide the measure of the magnetic fields (≈ μG) in the intra-cluster medium (ICM...
